Exhibition
The exhibition identity draws upon the sense of vitality present in Kusama’s biomorphic works. At the core of the visual identity are a series of custom organic orbs used as holding shapes for wall text and imagery. Each holding shape is customised depending on content and allowable space. Similar to the fluid forms in Kusama’s work, the orbs travel across the exhibition and “overgrows” its surrounding environment. The orbs become familiar motifs as visitors walk through the exhibit.
All photography are treated in a duotone that blends in naturally with the room. For certain supergraphics, photos are treated in a halftone to emphasise their archival quality. Halftone treatment also matches well with the rounded forms of the visual identity. Typographically, text are treated in a staggered format to mimic the fluid forms. Sunset Gothic was intentionally chosen as the English typeface due to its gestures that are reminiscent of biomorphic qualities. Noto Sans was an ideal CJK choice that bridges Chinese and Japanese content.
